OPPO Find X4 Pro leak shows yet another unique camera design

We’re likely a little while away from what we presume will be the OPPO Find X4 Pro’s release, though it’s expected to be OPPO’s 2022 flagship smartphone. There’s not a whole lot that we know about it just yet, but we’re fairly certain that it will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. On top of that, it will also be the first OPPO smartphone to pack the MariSilicon X chip — the company’s own chipset to handle image processing. Now though, we’re getting our first look at the OPPO Find X4 Pro. Keep in mind that this may actually be the OPPO Find X5 Pro if the company opts to skip the number four, as many companies (including now-merged company OnePlus a few years ago) sometimes do.

OPPO Find X4 Pro

These renders of the OPPO Find X5 Pro have been leaked thanks to @OnLeaks in collaboration with Prepp. These renders are based on “early prototype schematics”. It has a rather unique design on the back that clearly iterates upon the OPPO Find X3 Pro’s all-glass unibody. There are only so many ways to house a camera on a smartphone, and the OPPO Find X3 Pro is still the only phone on the market that does it with an all-glass unibody. Prepp speculates a number of specifications, though those are not confirmed and are not provided by OnLeaks.

In fact, OnLeaks doesn’t confirm any information, not even a display size or dimensions, though past experience would suggest that the OPPO Find X5 Pro will share a lot of specifications with the OnePlus 10 Pro. That means we can make an educated guess that the OPPO Find X5 Pro will have a display size close to 6.7-inches. Given that the Find X3 Pro also has a 120Hz, QHD+ display, it’s extremely likely that the Find X5 Pro will, too.

OnLeaks only shared renders with the website, so take any additional specifications with a grain of salt. OPPO has said the Find X4 series will be announced and released in Q1 of 2022.

How to generate a QR code on your iPhone while it’s offline

QR codes are an easy way to share a phone number, URL, and lots of other data types. You can post the code anywhere — online or through printing it — and people will get quick access to the included data when they scan it. By default, iPhones are capable of detecting QR codes without installing any third-party apps — through the built-in Camera app. Additionally, iOS 15 enables users to detect these codes on images in the Photos app. There’s no obvious option to generate a QR code on iOS, and using third-party apps or websites isn’t the most convenient or privacy-focused option. However, there is a way to build a tool without depending on third-party solutions. Here’s how to generate a QR code on your iPhone while it’s offline.

  • Voila! Now whenever you trigger the shortcut, it’ll ask for the text and generate a QR code containing it on the spot — without needing an internet-connected iPhone. You can add a Shortcuts widget to your Home Screen for quick access or even ask Siri to run it.

QR codes make sharing a piece of information one scan away. If you have a store, for example, it’s easier for people to scan the QR code that redirects to your website directly from a poster. Having to memorize or type URLs, especially long ones, could discourage potential customers from visiting your webpage.

These are the best optical drives you can buy in 2022

Many modern computers and laptops have ditched the good ol’ optical drives. The advent of online streaming services and the ability to download content on the go have rendered these optical drives redundant for most users. That being said, there’s still a good chunk of people who carry around a library of movies and music. It’s safe to say that the physical drives still have many takers. In this article, we’ll be taking a look at some of the best optical drives you can buy on the market right now.

From compact and affordable units to powerful and featured-packed drives, we’ve managed to put together a collection of some of the best optical drives on the market for you to use. Whether you’re an enthusiast looking for a powerful Blu-ray drive or an average Joe looking for a basic CD/DVD burner, we’ve got some solid recommendations for you. So, let’s get started:

Navigate this article:

Best overall optical drive: ASUS BW-16D1X-U Blu-ray Drive

A black-colored ASUS Blu-ray drive with a blue LED indicator light

If you’re in the market to buy an optical drive in 2022, then let it be the ASUS BW-16D1X-U Blu-ray drive. This featured-packed optical drive offers a long list of features and it manages to do so without burning a huge hold in your pockets. The ASUS BW-16D1X-U is our pick for the best overall optical drive you can buy on the market right now. One of the first things you notice about this drive is that it’s got a modern design. A lot of these optical drives tend to reflect their age-old design, but the ASUS unit we picked here is different.

The drive, as you can see, comes with a matte black and glossy surface on the top. There’s also a cool LED indicator that lights up when the drive is active. The ASUS BW-16D1X-U Blu-ray drive measures 9.5” x 6.5” x 2.2”, so it’s not the most portable option on the market. That being said, it’s still better than a lot of other drives out there. This Blu-ray burner offers a Plug and Play design. All you have to do is simply connect the drive to your computer and it starts to work. The drive also includes a copy of the software too, but it doesn’t seem to work on macOS. The drive still works with macOS, so you’ll have to rely on some other software to get the most usage out of it.

When it comes to compatibility, the ASUS BW-16D1X-U Blu-ray drive supports just about any Blu-ray, DVD, and CD format. It also supports M-discs, which are designed for long-term archiving. ASUS claims that it can last for up to 1000 years, which is quite promising, at say least. If you’re someone who’s into archiving or likes to take plenty of backups, then this might be the drive for you. There’s no support for Ultra Blu-ray discs, though. It’s not necessarily a deal-breaker, but definitely, something to make a note of.

The ASUS BW-16D1X-U is also a performant drive, meaning it offers really good read and writes speeds. The performance is also quite reliable in terms of quality. The extracted files turned out great and there were issues whatsoever. The supporting software on Windows is also very reliable in terms of functionality. That being said, there’s no shortage of supporting software on the market. You can use a bunch of them from Power2Go to NeroBackItUp to extract or backup files. A lot of this software also has an encryption function to secure your data. Additionally, ASUS also provides a free six-month subscription to their cloud storage system with the BW-16D1X-U.

All things considered, we think the ASUS BW-16D1X-U is a solid option to consider for $120. The pricing is on-par with most Blu-ray drives but this one happens to offer good value for money with all the important features on deck. Other options like the OWC Mercury Pro External USB 3.1 Gen 1 Optical Drive are also worth considering if you don’t mind spending a little more.

The ASUS BW-16D1X-U is a reliable Blu-ray optical drive that offers a good set of features at a relatively affordable price.

      Pros:

      Cons:

Second best overall optical drive: OWC Mercury Pro

A silver colored OWC Mercury Pro optical drive

The OWC Mercury Pro External optical drive is also a solid option to consider. We think it’s just as good as the ASUS BW-16D1X-U-drive, if not better. This one, however, happens to be slightly expensive. One of the things you’ll notice about the OWC Mercury Pro External optical drive is its rugged, durable look. Unlike the ASUS BW-16D1X-U drive that we saw earlier, this one comes in a matte aluminum enclosure. We like the industrial look and feel of the drive and the build quality also appears to be quite sturdy.

In terms of the IO, the OWC Mercury Pro external drive sports a USB 3.0 slot, a DC input, a power switch, and a Kensington security slot. The OWC Mercury Pro drive is tray loading, which means the drive tray slides out for the Blu-ray discs. Tray loading drives are different from the one in which you have a center spindle onto which you have to press the Blu-ray discs. Tray loading is much easier to use and there are fewer chances of you breaking or corrupting your discs.

The OWC Mercury Pro External optical drive is compatible with almost all major formats out there. This includes M-Disc, which is essentially an archival quality disc format that lasts longer than any other standard out there. Most Blu-ray drives aren’t compatible with these long-lasting discs. The OWC Mercury Pro External optical drive supports it in a great fashion, that too right out of the box with both macOS and Windows.

The OWC Mercury drive is also second to none when it comes to the overall performance of the drive. Both extracting and copying files to the discs are blazingly fast. It tends to get a little noisy during the process, but the result is simply stunning. We think the OWC Mercury drive is the one to get if you tend to burn a lot of Blu-rays. It’s also very reliable and easy to use. All you have to do is use the USB cable to connect it to your computer, and you should be good to go. Everything works as intended with almost little to no errors.

The OWC Mercury is priced slightly higher than the ASUS BW-16D1X-U but we think it’s a good option to consider if you use Blu-ray more often, especially Blu-ray burning. The only thing we don’t quite like about the OWC Mercury drive is its plain and simple design. Sure, optical drives don’t have to be fancy, but it doesn’t hurt to make your unit look good. It’s also not the most portable drive on the market, which means it may be difficult to carry the drive with you at all times.

But if you don’t mind the issues we just highlighted about its design or the portability factor, then this is perhaps one of the best options on the market right now. It also supports USB 3.1 Gen 1, so that’s worth considering too. A great option overall for reliable performance at a great price.

Best budget optical drive: LG GP65NB60 external drive

A black-colored LG optical drive

While it’s good to have the ability to work with Blu-ray discs, we understand that not everyone needs a Blu-ray disc drive. As good as the blu-ray drives are, they tend to run a little expensive than the standard ones that only support CD/DVDs. Well, if you’re somebody who doesn’t need the Blu-ray capabilities, then you might want to check out the LG GP65NB60. This particular optical drive is available for just $50 on Amazon right now, and it’s our pick for the optical drive you can buy on the market right now.

The LG GP65NB60, as you can see, has a low-profile design. Despite being an affordable drive, we think the LG GP65BN60 looks the best out of the bunch. The low-profile design makes it extremely portable, meaning you can carry it easily. The LG GP65BN60 is small enough to fit into your backpack. It only measures 0.6 x 5.4 x 5.6 inches and weighs just 0.4 pounds. This is easily our pick when it comes to portability.

The LG GP65BN60 ultra-slim optical drive is also compatible with a variety of standards. it can both read and write different types of disc formats including CD/DVD, DVD+R, RW DVD-R, RW DVD-RAM, and more. This particular drive also supports M-discs for backup and archival processes, making it a great option for those who like to collect data or media files. The M-disc uses a patent rock-like recording surface instead of organic dye to etch the data onto the disc. M-Discs are usually proven to outlast the existing DVDs/CDs on the market.

The LG GP56BN60 is also reliable when it comes to the overall performance of the drive. It can read CD ROM at 24x speeds and DVD ROM at 8x speeds. The drive, as you can see, isn’t lagging behind the competition despite the affordable price tag. The write speeds of the drive are also decent. The LG GP65BN60 can write with up to 24x in CD-R and up to 8x on DVD-R. It may not be the fastest drive on the market, but it’s still commendable and very reliable for the price. One of the best things about this particular drive from LG is that it only demands a single USB connection. This is for both the drive power as well as the data transfer needs.

It also supports Windows and Mac, making it another solid option for mac users. A lot of optical drives on the market are targeted at Windows users, but not this. And the fact that it can also burn archival-quality M-discs makes it a very good optical drive option to consider, especially at this price. It’s safe to say that the LG GP65BN60 offers almost all the importance you’d expect from a modern optical drive on the market. The only thing that’s missing here is the ability to read/write Blu-ray discs. That’s not necessarily a deal-breaker for those who don’t want a Blu-ray-compatible drive. The LG GP65BN60 is also available in black and white color options, so pick the one that suits your setup.

Alternate best budget pick: Dell DW316 USB DVD Drive

A black-colored Dell optical drive with a USB cable connected at the back

The Dell DW316 USB DVD Drive is another solid option to consider if you’re looking for a simple and easy-to-use optical drive on the market. Just like the LG GP65BN60 drive, the Dell unit doesn’t support blu-ray. That being said, it’s a great option if you only need something to handle your CD/DVD needs. The Dell DW316 measures just 0.55 x 5.41 x 5.67 inches, which means it’s also just as portable as the LG option we saw earlier. We always recommend picking up a portable drive over the chonky unit mainly due to the portability factor. You can connect and use these drives with just a USB connector, so why not pick up something that’s portable.

The Dell DW316 also weighs a hair less than 200 grams. It can easily fit into your backpack and you won’t even notice it. The Dell DW316, as we mentioned earlier, runs off of just. USB connector. That’s all you need for both powering the unit as well as for data transfer, so it really doesn’t take all that much to get this thing up and running. The Dell DW316 officially comes with support for Windows, but it’s known to work with Mac computers too. You may need a dongle or a supported adapter to use it with new MacBooks, though.

This particular drive from Dell comes pre-loaded with CyberLink Media Suite that lets you easily connect the drive and explore all the available options for the drive. You can use it to burn DVDs/CDs or even rip some data off the discs. You may have to download a third-party app to get the drive working with macOS since there’s no official support for the same.

The overall performance of the Dell DW316 is also comparable to that of a lot of other drives on the market right now. For $20, the Dell DW316 ends up scoring just as much or even better than a lot of other expensive drives on the market. The LG GP65BN60, for one, is a good alternative and solid comparison. According to Dell, the DW316 drive boasts a maximum read speed of up to 24x for CDs and 8x for DVDs. The LG GP65BN60 drive, in comparison, offers the same read speeds of up to 24x for CDs and 8x for DVDs. The write speeds for the Dell DW316 are also the same, which is once again on par with other options.

The Dell DW316 is also known for making less noise under load. This is something that’s not usually seen on many optical drives, so that’s good. Dell is offering a 1-year warranty for the DW316 drive in case something goes wrong. It’s also worth pointing out that the Dell DW316 offers tray loading for discs, which is known to be better and more reliable than the top spindle loading drives. All things considered, we think the DW316 is a pretty good option to consider if you’re in the market to buy an affordable and reliable optical drive.

The Dell DW316 optical drive is yet another affordable option on the market that offers reliable performance for the price.

Best Blu-ray burner: Pioneer BDR-XS06

A silver-colored optical drive with Blu-ray logo on top

A lot of people consider buying an optical drive mainly because of the Blu-ray support. DVDs and CDs are also compatible with most of the drives, but the Blu-ray is what gets the most attention. If you’re in the market to buy a new Blu-ray compatible optical drive, then we think the Pioneer BDR-XS06 is worth considering. The Pioneer BDR-XS06 is a slot-loading Blu-ray burner that comes with the solid build quality and a long list of features.

The Pioneer BDR-XS06, as you can see, carries a shiny silver shell that looks better than a lot of these black-colored optical drives on the market. This also happens to have a solid construction that inspires confidence while handling the drive. It’s crucial for an optical drive to have solid construction, especially when you’re looking at a relatively thin form factor. The drive only measures 5.3″ X 0.7″ X 5.3″ and weighs 289 grams making it a very compact option to consider. The Pioneer BDR-XS06 sports a USB 3.0 micro-B and a port for a DC power input.

One thing that’s worth highlighting here is that the optical drive doesn’t come with a power cable. That’s right, you only get a micro USB to USB A cord to connect this thing to a computer. This isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker since you only need the micro USB cable to get it up and running. the Pioneer BDR-XS06 works well with both Windows as well as Mac computers, so it shouldn’t be an issue with working with this drive. The drive also comes with its own installation software, which is good. This particular drive offers the best plug-n-play experiences in the optical drive space. A lot of other drives don’t offer either the software files or they work with macOS natively. None of that seems to be an issue with the Pioneer BDR-XS06.

The Pioneer BDR-XS06 supports read speeds of up to 24x for CD-R and up to 8x for DVD-R. The same is the case for the write speeds too. These speeds, as you can already tell, are very similar to some drives we saw in this collection. Another thing that’s worth pointing out is the fact that the Pioneer BDR-XS06 drive slows down its read and write speeds. It does that to keep the noise level low while playing those media files. The speed picks up again when it reads data discs. This particular drive is known to get a little loud, so keep that in mind. We’re glad that it least slows down automatically while playing media files, though.

All in all, we think the Pioneer BDR-XS06 is a solid option to consider if you want a drive that supports Blu-ray. It delivers strong performance and portability, that too at an MSRP of just $120. The pricing is on par with a lot of other drives in its category, but we’d pick the Pioneer BDR-XS06 for its solid build quality and low-profile design. You can hit the link below to get the best price online for this particular drive right now.

Best DVD burner: ASUS ZenDrive

A black-colored ASUS ZenDrive optical drive

The ASUS ZenDrive is yet another reliable option that pops up while discussing optical DVD/CD drives. This one, however, doesn’t support Blu-ray, so you’ll have to pick from some of the other options that we’ve mentioned in this collection. Despite that, we think the ASUS ZenDrive is a quality pick. As such, it’s our pick for the best DVD burner you can buy on the market right now.

The fact that the ASUS ZenDrive doesn’t come with support for Blu-ray makes it one of the cheapest options on the market. For under $50, you’re getting a high-quality drive with an amazing build quality and a lot of other great features. The ASUS ZenDrive, in case you’re wondering, only measures 0.55 x 5.33 x 5.61 inches. This is one of the most compact drives on the market right now. We recommend picking up a compact drive over the bigger ones mainly due to the portability, and this one fits the boat rather perfectly.

The ASUS ZenDrive, unlike a lot of other optical drives on the market, only requires a single USB connector. it’ll handle both power and data transfer for the drive. It makes the drive very easy to use without having to carry around a bunch of cables to get it up and running. The ZenDrive is only available in black color option, but we think it looks pretty good and has a very good quality.

The ZenDrive is a very reliable optical drive and we think it performs well for its size. The ASUS ZenDrive offers impressive read and write speeds of up to 24x for CDs and 8x for DVDs, respectively. These speeds, in case you’re wondering, are on par with most other optical drives on the market right now. In fact, the ZenDrive trades blows with a lot of other premium drives we’ve mentioned in this collection. Additionally, the ZenDrive can also access CD and DVD content in just 160ms.

Another thing that’s worth making mentioning is that the ZenDrive supports burning to M-Disc. This feature isn’t supported by a lot of optical drives in comparison, so that’s a good addition. Being able to burn to M-Disc makes the ZenDrive a good option for those who’re looking to create long-lasting archival data that can last up to 1000 years. Another reason why we recommend picking up the ASUS ZenDrive is that it supports both Windows and macOS. The drive comes with CyberLink software to help you get started — be it storing content on discs or extracting them.

ASUS also offers six months of free cloud storage with the ZenDrive, which is another bonus feature that’s exclusive to this optical drive. Overall, we think the ASUS ZenDrive is one of the best optical drives on the market right now. It’s a fantastic option to consider if you’re looking to burn or rip DVDs and CDs, and Blu-ray isn’t a necessity for you. You can hit the link below to find the best price for the ASUS ZenDrive on the market right now.

Best for storage formats: LG WP50NB40

A black-colored LG optical drive with a blu-ray disc inside

LG has some of the best optical drives on the market. We’ve already added the LG GP65NB60 optical drive to the list as our pick for the best budget drive. It’s a potent drive with a low-profile design that offers a good set of features at an affordable price. We’re also adding the LG WP50NB40 drive to the list as our pick for the drive for storage formats. This particular drive supports a variety of different storage formats. You want support for both Blu-ray as well as DVD? No problem. Want support for M-Discs? No problem either.

The LG WP50NB40, as you can see, also has a slim profile. In fact, this is one of the few optical drives on the market that’s as slim as it is and also supports a variety of different formats. This particular drive is just 2-inches thick, making it one of the most portable drives around. The overall measurements are also small enough to fit inside a small backpack. It’s only available in black-color option, but it’s we think it looks good and has a solid build quality.

The LG WP50NB40 isn’t the fastest when it comes to the write speeds, though. That being said, it makes it up by supporting a wide variety of formats, as we mentioned earlier. You can also use this Blu-ray drive to urn archival or high-capacity discs. It supports both M-Disc and BDXL discs, which is impressive by itself. M-discs, in case you don’t know, are archival media formats and BDXL discs are high-capacity Blu-ray formats. BDXL discs are capable of holding several times the data that can be stored inside a standard Blu-ray disc.

This is probably one of the very few discs on the market that supports these many storage formats. Sure, it’s going to be a little slower than a lot of other drives on the market, but we’d trade that to get support for these many formats. When it comes to speed, the LG WP50NB40 supports Blu-ray write speeds of up to 6x and Blu-ray read speeds of up to 6x. It’s not too slow by any means, but there are faster drives on the market.

Another thing that’s worth pointing out is the fact that it requires two USB connections. You’ll need one for your computer and the other one for a power supply. This isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, but a lot of other drives only demand one connection. This could potentially make it a little tricky to work with, especially when you’re on the move. The included cables are short in length, so we suggest you pick longer cables to use with this drive.

The LG WP50NB40 works well with both Windows as well as macOS, so you shouldn’t have any issues getting it up and running. We think the LG WP50NB40 is a solid option to consider if you care about working with a variety of different data formats. You can hit the link below to find the best price for this drive on the market right now.

Best optical drive for Mac: Pioneer BDR-XU03

A silver-colored optical drive from Pioneer oriented vertically on a stand

A lot of the optical drives we mentioned in the list have pretty good designs. Not a lot of manufacturers are making any new optical drives on the market, so there’s not a lot to expect in terms of the design. That being said, we do have one last recommendation for you. The Pioneer BDR-XU03 is probably one of the best-looking optical drives on the market right now. This drive also happens to be the only one in the list that’s compatible with just the Apple Mac computers. That’s right, Windows users will have to look elsewhere because this one only supports the Mac computers.

The Pioneer BDR-XU03, as you can see reflects the sleek aesthetics of Apple devices with its design. This is also a slim drive that comes with a low-profile design. The Pioneer BDR-XU03 only measures 5.2 x 0.8 x 5.2 inches and weighs about 220 grams. The Pioneer BDR-XU03 sports a magnesium body and it comes with a stand. This is the only optical drive in this collection that comes with a stand, and it can be kept in a vertical orientation. Being able to orient the drive vertically makes it even more compact.

Besides that, the Pioneer BDR-XU03 also supports a variety of different formats. The Pioneer BDR-XU03 supports BDXL disc format too, which means you can use this drive to burn or extract high-capacity data. The drive also comes with support for a few intelligent playback modes including PowerRead, PureRead2+, and Auto Quiet mode. All these features come together for a unique all-around experience.

The PowerRead and PowerRead2+ allow the drive to provide smoother playback when it comes to music and other media files such as movies. The Auto Quiet mode, as the name suggests, automatically reduces the overall noise output of the drive by lowering the read and write speeds while playing media files. The Auto Quiet mode feature is something that we also saw with the Pioneer BDR-XS06 optical drive. Pioneer is known for making some quality media playback devices on the market, and these features perfectly reflect the company’s focus in that space.

As for the read and write speeds, the Pioneer BDR-XU03 offers Blu-ray write speeds of 6x and Blu-ray read speeds of 6x. These speeds are more in-line with a lot of other drives on the market, so that’s good. All things considered, we think the Pioneer BDR-XU03 is a very good optical drive for Mac users. The fact that it’s not available for Windows users is a bummer mainly because this drive offers plenty of useful features.

It also happens to be one of the best-looking optical drives on this list. That being said, there’s no shortage of optical drives for Windows. However, that’s not the case with macOS. In fact, the selection of reliable optical drives for macOS is rather slim. Besides that, there are other drives in the collection that supports both the operating systems. You can hit the link below to find the best price for the Pioneer BDR-XU03 in the market right now.

Best optical drives to buy: Final Thoughts

Modern computers may be ditching these optical drives, but there’s clearly a lot of them still alive and kicking. Using an optical drive is your only option if you have decades’ worth of CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays to watch or archive. We think the ASUS BW-16D1X-U Blu-ray Drive is one of the best optical drives to consider right now. The Dell Dell DW316 USB DVD Drive is also worth considering if you don’t mind giving up support for Blu-ray for a cheaper drive. MIUI 13 unveiled: Here’s a quick overview of Xiaomi’s latest Android skin

At a launch event in China today, Xiaomi unveiled the latest version of its Android skin — MIUI 13. As you’d expect, MIUI 13 comes with a bunch of new features and performance improvements, including new privacy features, a new system font, a bunch of cool wallpapers, and even a version optimized for tablets. In case you missed the launch live stream, here’s a quick overview of everything new in MIUI 13.

MIUI 13: Performance improvements and new features

MIUI 13 brings several performance improvements over the previous release — MIUI 12.5. Xiaomi claims that the latest version of its custom Android skin offers better app fluency with 15% fewer dropped frames in third-party applications when compared to the previous release. Xiaomi’s native apps also run better on the new release, with 23% fewer dropped frames.

Xiaomi claims that MIUI 13 ranks at the top in Master Lu’s fluency test, beating Android skins from other OEMs on devices across all price points. Xiaomi has also improved the multitasking capabilities on MIUI 13, and the software now lets you have up to 14 apps open in the background on a flagship device at any given time.

Xiaomi has also worked on making MIUI 13 more secure for the end-users with new features like face verification protection, privacy watermark, and fraud protection. At the moment, we don’t have the complete details for all these features. However, we do know that the privacy watermark feature will let you add a watermark to images that you share to prevent misuse.

MIUI 13 new privacy features

New privacy and security features

The fraud protection feature, on the other hand, consists of a couple of different measures to protect users from online and telecom frauds, like “E-fraud warning,” “Official logo,” Fraud application installation interception,” and “Transfer protection.”

MiSans font

As mentioned earlier, MIUI 13 also includes a new system font called MiSans. It’s a flat and minimal font with rich Opentype features, like automatically adjusting the height of hyphens to uppercase and lowercase letters. The font is free to download for both personal and commercial use.

MIUI 13 live wallpapers

Furthermore, MIUI 13 comes with a host of new live wallpapers that showcase crystal formation. Xiaomi says that these wallpapers were captured using a polarization microscope via 8K timelapse photography. We’ll make sure to share these new wallpapers with you as soon as the first build of MIUI 13 starts rolling out to devices.

MIUI 13 widgets

MIUI 13 widgets

In addition, MIUI 13 also includes support for a bunch of new widgets, like “Super Countdown Day” and “Water Measuring Cup”. The company only gave us a glimpse of these new widgets during the launch event, but we expect to learn more details in the coming days.

MIUI 13 Pad

Along with MIUI 13 for smartphones, Xiaomi also announced MIUI 13 Pad during today’s launch event. MIUI 13 Pad is an optimized version of Xiaomi’s Android skin for large-screen devices. It brings some additional features to help users make the most of the extra screen real estate. Xiaomi has also worked with developers to optimize apps for this new tablet interface and the company claims that over 3000 apps have already been adapted for large screens.

Along with all the new features mentioned above, MIUI 13 Pad includes a few additional features to improve the multitasking experience on large-screen devices. These include features like a new shortcut to quickly switch between full screen and windowed modes, window scaling, a global taskbar with drag and drop support for multitasking, and more. MIUI 13 Pad also offers support for a bunch of keyboard shortcuts to enhance productivity.

MIUI 13 rollout schedule

Xiaomi plans to start rolling out MIUI 13 to the first batch of devices by the end of January 2022. The new Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and the Xiaomi 12X will be among the first devices to receive the update, along with the Mi 11 Ultra, the Mi 11 Pro, and the Mi 11. MIUI 13 Pad will also start rolling out to the Mi Pad 5 Pro and the Mi Pad 5 towards the end of next month.

This post is a WIP. We’ll add more details soon!

Lenovo exec confirms the Motorola Razr 3 is in the works

Foldable phones are getting more and more mainstream, with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 pre-orders far exceeding Samsung’s previous foldable. However, at least in the U.S., it actually started with the Motorola Razr. It went on sale in the U.S. on February 6th, 2020. While the Motorola Razr 5G (the original Razr’s successor) was a bit lacklustre as a sequel, a Lenovo executive has confirmed that the Motorola Razr 3 is in the works.

motorola razr 3 confirmation by lenovo exec

The Lenovo executive in question is Chen Jin, who earlier this year also confirmed the greatly increased GPU performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. His confirmation of the Motorola Razr 3 came through Weibo (via Android Authority). In the (machine translated) post, Chen Jin says that it will have more advanced computing power, a better interface, and a better appearance. It’s vague, but it confirms that the device is coming, though it’s unclear if it will use a flagship chipset this time around.

The Motorola Razr was indeed one of the first vertically folding phones in the world, though it wasn’t exactly a fan favourite. It had decidedly mid-range specifications for a high price, and its successor was more of the same. In contrast, devices like the Samsung Galaxy Flip, even at the time, outclassed it by a large margin. Foldable phones are fun, but it definitely wasn’t one of the best foldable phones.

Either way competition in the space means more improvements and faster innovation. We’ve already seen the entry of a new competitor in the OPPO Find N, and we’re excited to see what Motorola can bring to the table with its third generation foldable phone.

These are the best Fractal Design PC cases you can buy in 2022

One of the biggest decisions you have to make while building a computer is picking the best PC case for your rig. There are plenty of PC cases to choose from different manufacturers like Corsair, NZXT, etc. We think Fractal Design is also a top pick in the community when it comes to PC cases. The company makes a ton of quality cabinets, so there’s a very good chance you’ll find one that suits your needs. Picking the best Fractal Design PC case, however, can be a little daunting due to the number of available options. In this article, we’ll be taking a look at some of the best Fractal Design PC cases that are worth considering for your next PC build.

Navigate this article:

Best overall Fractal Design case: Fractal Design Define 7

A black PC case with a tempered glass side panel resting on a wooden table

There are a couple of different variants of the Fractal Design Define 7 cases on the market right now, but we think the original Define 7 is the best overall Fractal Design PC case you can buy. This mid-tower PC case is suitable for a variety of builds — be it an entry-level PC or a high-end gaming rig. This also happens to be one of the best-looking cases on the market. The Fractal Design Define 7 is available in both black and white colors. This is a great option for those who’re looking to buy a white PC case for their setup.

The Fractal Design Define 7, as you can see, comes with an anodized aluminum front panel with a brushed aluminum finish. There are vents on both the front as well as the top panel for airflow. You also get an option to choose between a solid or a tempered glass panel for the side. We recommend picking up the tempered glass panel if you want to show off the internals of your build. One of the best things about this PC case is that its chassis opens up to fully expose the case interior. That makes it easier for you to build inside the case.

The Define 7 isn’t an airflow case by design but you do get a lot of space to add case fans and radiators for cooling. The case comes with three pre-installed Dynamic X2 GP-14 fans out of the box. These are 140mm fans that are great for moving air in and out of the chassis. There’s space to add more fans to the case, but you’ll have them separately. You can install another 140mm fan on the front in addition to the two that are already installed. There’s space to add three 120mm or 140mm fans on the top panel too. You can also install two 120mm or 140mm fans at the bottom while a 140mm fan is already pre-installed on the back.

As for the radiator mounting options, you can install up to a 360mm radiator on the front, and up to 420mm radiator on the top. You can also install a small 120mm radiator at the back along with up to 240mm radiator at the bottom. It’s also worth pointing out that all the vents are covered with dust filters to keep the dust and dirt away from the internal components.

The Fractal Design Define 7 has plenty of space inside the chassis for all the components. You get clearance for a GPU with a max length of up to 491mm and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 185mm. Fractal Design also makes it easier to manage cables inside the case as there’s dedicated space to route cables. All things considered, the Fractal Design Define 7 is a solid case to consider. It’s suitable for a variety of builds. It’s also a decently priced PC case for all the features it brings to the table.

Second best overall pick: Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact

A black colored Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact PC case with no side panel installed
The Meshify 2 Compact is one of the most popular Fractal Design cases on the market, and rightfully so. It’s our pick for the second-best Fractal Design you can buy, next to the Define 7. There’s a lot to like about the Meshify 2 Compact including its bold, stealth-inspired aesthetic. The Meshify 2 Compact is a solid airflow case that comes with a mesh front panel and plenty of space for mounting case fans. The Meshify 2 Compact comes with the iconic angular mesh front panel for filtered airflow.

The Meshify 2 Compact also has vents on the top panel for airflow. You also get the option to choose between a solid or a tempered glass side panel. A tempered glass panel will let you see the internals of the chassis and add to the overall aesthetics of the build. There’s space to install fans at the back of this front panel to help move more air in and out of the chassis.

The Meshify 2 Compact is a mid-tower PC case that supports ATX, mATX, and mini-ITX motherboards. It comes with two Dynamic X2 GP-14 140mm fans installed on the front along with a 140mm Dynamic X2 GP-14 fan at the back. You can install another 140mm fan on the front, and there’s more space to install two 120mm or 140mm fans on the top and a 120mm fan at the bottom. It’s safe to say that there’s plenty of space to install a case fan on this case for the best airflow. As for the radiator support, you can install up to a 360mm radiator on the front, up to a 240mm radiator on the top panel, and a 120mm radiator on the back as well as the bottom panel.

The Meshify 2 Compact has plenty of room inside for all the high-end components you plan to use for the build. The case has clearance for a GPU with a max length of up to 360mm and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 169mm. There’s also cable routing space inside the chassis that lets you manage the cables easily. The Meshify 2 Compact has seven expansion slots for things like the GPU and other expansion cards. Unlike Define 7, however, there are no vertical slots that let you mount the GPU vertically. That being said, the case has two 3.5″ and up to 4 2.5″ drive mounts for storage drives. You can install an ATX PSU in the case with a max length of up to 200mm.

Overall, we think the Meshify 2 Compact is one of the best ATX PC cases on the market right now. The case also comes with 5 years warranty in case something goes wrong. This case is suitable for a variety of different builds, which is why it’s our second best for the best overall Fractal Design PC case. You can hit the below to find the best price for this case online right now.

Best case for high-performance builds: Fractal Design Vector RS

A black-colored PC case with a custom loop for water cooling

The Vector RS is the only case in Fractal Design’s case lineup that looks entirely different. It’s got a completely different design that is nothing like the other cases we’ve mentioned in this collection. While the other Fractal Design offers a more minimal and muted, the Vector RS comes off as a shiny case with RGB lights. It screams performance and gaming in a way the others don’t. That makes sense for the Vector RS because it is one. We recommend the Vector RS for those who’re looking to build a high-performance PC with powerful components.

The Vector RS is a full tower that comes with plenty of space. This is the case you’d want to buy if you’re looking at a high-performance build with, say, a custom water cooling loop. The Vector RS PC case, as you can see, comes with a solid panel on the front with some air vents towards the sides for airflow. There’s also a tinted tempered glass on the side that lets you show off the internals of your PC. The case, unlike the other Fractal Design case also has RGB lights.

For the top, you get both tempered glass panels as well as mesh panels with vents for airflow. You can switch between the two quite easily depending on the kind of usage. This makes it is a versatile case. The solid tempered glass panel is good to suppress the internal noise while the panel with ventilation will allow for better airflow. It’s worth pointing out that other Fractal Design PC cases don’t offer this functionality.

The Vector RS PC case also comes with three Dynamic X2 GP-14 140mm fans for airflow. There are of them installed on the front while the last one is installed on the back panel. In addition to that, there’s a ton of space to add more fans as well as radiators inside the chassis. You can install another 140mm fan on the front and up to three 120mm or 140mm fans on the top panel. There’s more space to add up to two 120mm or 140mm fans at the bottom. When it comes to the radiator support, you can install up to a 360mm radiator on the front panel, up to a 360mm radiator on the top panel, and up to a 240mm radiator on the bottom panel.

The Vector RS also has enough space to accommodate a fully water-cooled system, complete with a pump, reservoir, and more. There’s also enough clearance to run the tubes for coolant. You can use either an E-ATX, an ATX, an mATX, or a mini-ITX motherboard with this case. You get clearance for a GPU with a max length of up to 440m and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 185mm. You can also mount your GPU vertically inside this chassis thanks to the vertical expansion slots. The Fractal Design Vector RS costs a bit more than some of the other cases mentioned in this list, but we think it’s well worth the asking price.

The Fractal Design Vector RS is a full-tower case that has plenty of space for a high-performance build.

Best budget Fractal Design PC case: Fractal Design Meshify C

A black colored Fractal Design Meshify C PC case with a solid side panel

The Fractal Design Meshify C is similar to the Meshify 2 Compact in more ways than one. The Meshify C is more affordable than the Meshify 2 Compact, yet it offers almost all the same set of features. It also adopts a design that favors airflow, making it a great option to consider even for a relatively high-end build. The front panel is the same mesh panel with angular mesh patterns. It’s identical to the one you get on the Meshify 2 Compact case.

The Meshify C has vents on the top for airflow. You can install fans and radiators on the top panel for more cooling. The thing about this case is that it comes with dust filters for all the vents despite the affordable price tag. Having a dust filter is crucial as it keeps you internal components of the PC from getting choked due to dust or dirt particles. You get an option to choose between either tempered glass or a solid side panel. The overall size of the chassis is also big enough to accommodate all the high-quality components for your build.

You get a total of seven expansion slots in the case for your GPU and other expansion cards that may want to add to your rig. Sadly, there’s no option to mount the GPU vertically. This isn’t a deal-breaker considering the relatively affordable price tag of the case. This particular case has space for either an ATX mATX or a mini-ITX motherboard. As for the component clearance, you can install a GPU with a max length of up to 315mm and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 170mm. You also have dedicated space inside the chassis for routing the cables.

The Meshify C comes with two 120mm pre-installed fans out of the box. You get a Dynamic X2 GP-12 installed each on the front as well as the back panels. There’s space to install two more 120mm fans on the front panel, two 120mm or 140mm fans on the top panel, and a single 120mm fan at the bottom. Additionally, you can also install up to a 360mm radiator on the front panel, up to a 240mm radiator on the top panel, and a single 120mm radiator on the back panel. This is one of the few affordable cases on the market that offers these many radiator mounting options.

The front panel IO comes with two USB 3.0 ports, audio ports, and a power button. The case also comes with two 3.5″ and three dedicated 2.5″ drive bays to add storage to the rig. The Meshify C, as you can see, comes with all the bells and whistles that you’d expect from a premium, high-quality PC case on the market. There’s not a lot to complain about the Meshify C, especially when it’s one of the most affordable mid-tower cases on the market. You can always step up to the bigger Meshify 2 Compact case if you want slightly better features and more space, but we think the Meshify C is plenty for most users looking to build a PC in 2021.

    Fractal Design Meshify C
The Fractal Design Meshify C is a more affordable version of the Meshify 2 Compact. It looks identical to the standard variant and offers almost the same set of features.

Best airflow case: Fractal Design Torrent

A white colored Fractal Design Torrent PC case with a headphone stand to it on a table
A lot of Fractal Design PC cases are known for their airflow capability, but we think it’s the Fractal Design Torrent case that does it the best right now. This is one of those PC cases that screams airflow from the moment you look at it. The front of the case, as you can see, is essentially a grille that lets the most amount of air inside the chassis. You can install fans on the front panel for better airflow too. There’s space to install three 120mm or 140mm fans on the front. You get two Dynamic GP-18 or two Prisma AL-18 140mm fans pre-installed out of the box depending on the version of the case you get.

In addition to that, you can install as many as three 120mm, three 140mm, or two 180 mm fans at the bottom of the case. There’s also space to add an additional 120mm case at the back for exhaust. The Torrent case also comes with dust filters for the front as well as the bottom panels, which is good. It would’ve been nice to have vents on the top panel too, but you get a solid panel on the top. That being said, the Torrent still has plenty of vents to move the air and out of the chassis, so no complaint there.

The Fractal Design Torrent case, as you can see, comes with a tempered glass side panel. It lets you see the internal components. There’s a ton of space inside the chassis for all the high parts that you plan on installing in your rig. This is a mid-tower PC case and you can use either an ATX, an mATX, or mini-ITX motherboards. You can check out our collection of the best motherboards to find some of the best boards on the market right now. The Torrent case is available in a bunch of different colors to choose from including an RGB variant that comes with RGB fans.

You get space for two 3.5″ and up to four 2.5″ drive bays for all your storage needs. You can also install a full-sized ATX PSU inside the chassis. In terms of component clearance, you can install a GPU with a max length of up to 461mm and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 188mm. There’s also space inside the chassis for a ton of radiators. You can mount up to a 420mm radiator on the front panel and up to a 420mm radiator on the bottom. The rear panel can also hold a small-sized 140mm radiator. You also get dedicated cable routing space, which we’ve seen on other Fractal Design PC cases.

Overall, it’s safe to say that the Fractal Design Torrent PC case is a fantastic option to consider. It’s just as good for a mid-range build as it is for a high-end PC. We recommend picking up a good quality AIO liquid cooler if you’re planning on using it for a high-end build with, say, an Intel Core i9-12900K.

The Fractal Design Torrent is a solid PC case with plenty of room inside the chassis and a lot of vents for airflow.

Best silent PC case: Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C

A black-colored PC case with a brushed aluminum finish on the front

Silent PC are mostly preferred by those who’re working in, say a professional studio or other working environments where they don’t want any unnecessary noise. A silent PC case can do a lot of good to eliminate the noise coming out of your PC. This may not sound significant, but it’ll be hard to go back to a normal PC case after using a silent one. The difference is very noticeable. If you’re on the market to buy a new silent PC case, then recommend checking out the Fractal Design Define R6 case. We’re checking out the one that comes with a USB Type-C port on the front.

The Fractal Design Define R6 PC case is built for silent computing. It comes with an industrial dampening on the side, top, as well as the front panel. This makes up for a quiet operation even when the PC is under load. The Define R6, as you can see, doesn’t have any mesh panels like some of the other Fractal Design cases. Well, that’s by design because it allows the case to be silent. Airflow cases with a ton of vents and case fans are not suitable for quiet operation.

That being said, the Define R6 is still a fantastic PC case for airflow. It comes with two Dynamic X2 GP-14 140mm fans pre-installed on the front along with a Dynamic X2 GP-14 140mm fan at the back. In addition to those fans, there’s space to install another 140mm fan on the front, up to two 140mm fans on the top panel, and a single 140mm fan at the bottom. It’s worth pointing out that all the vents are covered with dust filters, which is good for the overall health of the PC. The case also has a ton of space for all the internal components and the radiators that you plan on mounting for your build.

There’s space to add up to a 360mm radiator on the front panel, up to a 360mm radiator on the top panel, a 240mm radiator on the bottom panel and lastly a 120mm radiator on the back panel. You can build using either an E-ATX, ATX, mATX or an mITX motherboard inside this chassis. In terms of component clearance, you can install a GPU with a max length of up to 440mm and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 185mm. There’s also dedicated space to route cables inside the chassis as we’ve seen on other Fractal Design PC cases.

You also get seven horizontal as well as two vertical expansion slots, which means you can mount your GPU vertically if you want to. There’s also space to add a ton of drive bays to take care of all your storage needs. The front panel includes two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports. This is in addition to the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port and a couple of audio ports. Overall, it’s safe to say that the Fractal Design Define R6 is one of the best silent PC cases around. If you’re looking to buy a Fractal Design case and want something for a low noise operation, then this is one to buy.

Fractal Design Define R6 PC case
The Fractal Design Define R6 is a solid option to consider if you want a silent PC for your setup to maintain low noise output.

Best micro ATX PC case: Fractal Design Define Mini C Tempered Glass

A black-colored Fractal Design PC case with a tempered glass side panel

We’ve got another Fractal Design Define case for you in our collection. This time, it’s the Define Mini C PC case. The Define C mini is relatively smaller which is why we think it’s a good mATX PC case. In fact, the company says this case is smaller than your average microATX PC case This case offers a good mix of features that makes it a good airflow as well as a silent option for those who’re looking for the best of both worlds.

The Fractal Design Define Mini C, as you can see, comes with a solid front panel with air vents on the sides for airflow. The side panel is tempered glass in this particular variant. You can also buy a variant of the case with a solid side panel if you don’t like the see-through side panel. The top solid panel has air vents for airflow and you can install fans there to move more air in and out of the chassis. The tempered glass side panel is easily removable as it uses thumbscrews.

The Define Mini C uses ModuVent technology for sound dampening, allowing it to be quiet. Both the side as well as the front panels are lined with industrial-grade sound dampening material. The solid front panel of the case limits the airflow a bit, but you still have plenty of air vents and space to add case fans. The Define Mini C also comes with two pre-installed fans, which means, it’s somewhat ready to be used out of the box without having to spend too much money on fans.

The Define Mini C comes with a Dynamic X2 GP-12 120mm fan on the front as well as the back. There’s space to add two more 120mm or 140mm fans on the front. The top panel can also hold two 120mm or 140mm fans while the bottom panel has space for a single 120mm fan. All the vents are covered with dust filters, which is a standard in most Fractal Design cases. In terms of the radiator support, you can install up to 280mm radiator on the front, up to a 240mm radiator on the top panel, and a single small-sized 120mm radiator on the back panel.

The Define Mini C, despite its small form factor, has plenty of space for all the components. The case offers clearance for a GPU with a max length of up to 315mm and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 172mm. You can use either an mATX or a mini-ITX motherboard to build inside the chassis. There’s also a dedicated space to route cables, which is not usually in small PC cases like this one. You only have five expansion slots in this case, but that should be enough to fit just about any GPU on the market right now. The front panel includes two USB 3.0 ports, audio in and out ports, and a power button with an LED indicator. Overall, we think the Define Mini C is a good option to consider if you’re in the market to buy a small-sized PC case.

The Fractal Design Define Mini C is a small-sized PC case. It's a good option to consider if you're working in a small and confined space.

Best mini-ITX case: Fractal Design Node 304

A white colored Fractal Design PC case with vents on the side panel

While the Fractal Design Define Mini C is a good option to consider as a small-sized PC, we think the Node 304 is the true winner for the SFF PC case. As such, it’s our pick for the best mini-ITX case in this collection of the best Fractal Design PC case. The Node 304 is available in both black and white colors and we think both of them look equally good. This is a compact modular case and it’s very easy to work with. That being said, this is strictly for those who want something small and compact to fit into their setup.

An SFF PC case isn’t the best option to consider when it comes to features, but we think the Node 304 strikes a good balance. Fractal Design has managed to add a ton of features to make it a viable option on the market for those looking to buy a small PC case. The Node 304 comes with anodized aluminum panels for all sides. There’s not a lot of air vents on this case, but you do get one on the sides for the fans. All the air vents are covered with dust filters, which is a nice addition. A lot of case manufacturers tend to avoid that.

The Node 304 is an SFF case, which means the airflow is going to be limited. It is, however, well managed in this case. You get as many as three Series R2 hydraulic bearing fans with this case along with a fan controller. You can only mount a total of three fans inside this chassis, so it’s good to see that you don’t have to spend more money to add more extra fans. Two of these pre-installed fans are on the front while the other one is at the back. There’s no space to mount radiators inside this chassis, so it’s best to stick to a fan cooler for the CPU.

When it comes to the component clearance, you get space to install a GPU with a max length of up to 310mm and a CPU cooler with a max height of up to 165mm. You can use an ATX PSU with this case with a max length of up to 160mm. As for the motherboard compatibility, you can only install a mini-ITX board inside this small chassis. The Fractal Design Node 304 comes with two expansion slots and six drive bays. It’s safe to say that you won’t run out of storage between the storage drives and the M.2 SSDs installed on the motherboard.

The Fractal Design Node 304 is an excellent miniITX PC case, but it goes without saying that it’s not for everyone. SFF PC cases are very difficult to work with and they’re not the best option for a high-end build. These small cases tend to have very limited space inside the chassis to install high-performance components. It’s also very difficult to maintain proper airflow. But if you’re hellbent on buying a miniITX enclosure then this is as good as it gets.

Best Fractal Design PC cases to buy in 2021: Final Thoughts

Fractal Design has quite the list of PC cases in its portfolio and we think you’ll definitely find something that suits your needs. The Fractal Design Define 7 is a good option for most people who’re looking to build a mid-range to a high-end PC. The Meshify 2 Compact is also worth considering if you want more airflow inside your case. If you’re leaning towards a high-performance build then we recommend checking out the Vector RS. It’s a pretty big chassis with plenty of space for all your high-performance components and a custom water cooling loop. We’ve also added a couple of microATX and mini-ITX options that are worth considering.
