If you are a Samsung user and call yourself an Android enthusiast, you sure would be familiar with CF-Auto-Root. Coming from the reputed XDA Senior Recognized Developer Chainfire, this tool has opened up the doors to the world of root and beyond for a lot of new users.
Often times, CF-Auto-Root is the easiest and most hassle-free way to root a Samsung device.
This popular rooting method has just taken a leap to get more popular and relevant for current devices, as the latest update to CF-Auto-Root brings support for over 300 device models on newer base firmwares, along with support for various Android 5.1 and Android 6.0 firmwares.
Sorry for taking so long to update CFAR – the last major update was some time ago, and a lot has changed in Android land regarding root. Significant patching was needed for 6.0 in general, and Samsung made some security changes in 5.1 that also required more patching than usual.
As those patches seem to have somewhat stabilized over the last few weeks with only minor changes between the last few SuperSU releases, it was high time to update CFAR. So over the past week or two I’ve been collecting new firmwares, and the past few days the server has been whirring away crunching recoveries.
Generic instructions for supported Samsung devices starts off with downloading the correct zip file, and flashing the files within via Odin. Similarly, for Nexus devices, flash the files from the correct zip via fastboot.
There are a few precautions that go along with this, like increasing flash counter, tripping KNOX and wiping device if it is encrypted, so be sure to read in your forum thread for specific instructions and tips.
You can find dedicated CF-Auto-Root threads in your device’s subforum. You can also take a look at the Central Thread for generic discussion, but please do use the search function before making any requests. For downloads, visit the CF-Auto-Root Repository page.
