Google Finally Begins Marshmallow Rollout For Android Wear

Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Android Wear

Better late than never, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is finally starting to make its way onto your wrists in the form Android 6.0 for Wear.

Google has also announced more details in their official blog post. The post mentions a few of the new features that we can see on the latest version of the OS, including new system navigation gestures, voice support for more messaging clients and audio support for watches like the Huawei Watch.

So, which watches will be the lucky ones to receive this? Apparently, all of them.

Google Developer Advocate Wayne Piekarski mentioned this on his Google+ post:

Note that you will still need to support API 22 watches in your Android Wear apps until the rollout is complete. When all Android Wear devices have the update, I will make an announcement and you can then remove API 22 support.

The fact that developers will be asked to remove API 22 (Lollipop 5.1) support points that all watches will, eventually, get onto API 23 (Marshmallow 6.0). The only negative on this would be that some will get it sooner than others. The blog post also discreetly mentions that all Android Wear watches will receive the improvements.

These improvements are rolling out to all Android Wear watches over the next few weeks, including new watches like the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch and Huawei Watch for Ladies.

OTA updates for Android 6.0 for Android Wear have begun, and will appear on all Android Wear watches over the coming weeks.

Did you receive the Android 6.0 OTA on your watch? Let us know in the comments below!
