Lenovo Moto Z Shows Off Its Style MotoMod in Leaked Images

Lenovo is on its way to announcing the new Moto Z, the successor to the Moto X lineup, on 9th June, as it teased us with a very nostalgic Razr-inspired invitation.

While we rub our hands in anticipation of what the new Moto Z would actually bring to the table, leakers have been hard at work, bringing us more new information to sate our appetite of knowing about phones before they are launched.

Today’s information comes to us courtesy of HelloMotoHK, a page which specializes in Moto leaks. This time, we get treated to the additional Style MotoMods that will accompany the Moto Z in its quest for modularity.

The Style MotoMods attach in the same fashion as the other Mods, via the connecting pins present on the back. From the looks of things, there will be a fair few cover options available for users, ranging from leather to black apricot wood to nylon. The Style Mods themselves seem like phone covers re-imagined, as they do add additional thickness to the device without adding any functionality outside of aesthetic appeal. The Style Mods have the large camera hole cutout, which then allows the device’s camera hump to sit just about flush with the rest of the back. There’s also a microphone hole at the bottom. No speaker holes are seen here, so the Moto Z will either sport bottom-firing speakers, or front speakers.

There’s also no indication that these Style MotoMods would bear any other functionality, like additional battery capacity.

For some reason, a lot of areas in the leaked pics are blurred out. All the Motorola logos in the covers are blurred out, along with the bottom back plate and the camera lens area on the metallic phone. Blur is usually used to hide away identification marks in leaked images, so this could mean that these areas bore some serial number, which may or may not be present in the final device.

It’ll be interesting to see how well the Moto Z and its modularity are received by the consumers. While previous Moto X devices did bear pride in their MotoMaker options, this “Style” Mod approach is certainly deviation from what worked for Motorola in the past.
