Honor 8 Announced: Dual-Camera, Premium Design, Spacious Battery [Hands-On]

Honor has officially announced their new flagship, the Honor 8, which will be sold unlocked and around the world starting at $399 for the 32GB model, and $449 for 64GB, both of which offer microSD expansion. It has a 5.2″ FHD LCD display and is powered by the Kirin 950 (also found in the speedy Huawei Mate 8) with 4GB of RAM. The battery is 3,000mAh, which is pretty good for a phone of this size, and utilizes fast charging to get the phone to 50% in just 30 minutes. On the back is a 12MP dual-camera setup reminiscent of the one found on the Huawei P9, where one camera is black and white and the other is RGB to produce photos with better contrast plus improved results in low light situations. On the back you will find a fingerprint sensor, which doubles as a button that can be set up for a single press, double press, and press-and-hold action, even when the screen off. You can map this button to any app, or a variety of actions such as Google voice search, flashlight, camera, and more. Nifty!

Several XDA editors have been using the Honor 8 for a while before launch, and the consensus is that one of the standout features of the new phone is its design. Available in Pearl White, Sapphire Blue, and Midnight Black, the Honor 8 is made from glass that is embedded with a circular grooved pattern which captures the light in a really beautiful way. The device itself has flawless build quality which we’ve come to expect from devices that are much more expensive. Not only that, but XDA editors have been impressed by the Honor 8’s battery life (Mario has been pushing almost 5 hours SOT), plus performance seems to be pretty outstanding.
