Just like all the previous models, Huami is making the Mi Band 5 for Xiaomi. But besides making Mi Bands, Huami has assembled a decent portfolio of its own and that comprises several smart fitness trackers in the Amazfit lineup. We recently reviewed the Amazfit GTR and the Apple Watch-lookalike Amazfit GTS and really liked the two watches for their horde of features and ease of use. At CES 2020, Huami has now announced a new lineup of products including a new smartwatch Amazfit T-Rex and a lighter, more advanced Bip S fitness tracker. With this, Amazfit has also announced its entry into audio accessories with two truly wireless stereo earbuds – Amazfit Powerbuds and ZenBuds – that are also fitness products besides being audio products.
Amazfit T-Rex
The Amazfit T-Rex is a rugged smartwatch for fitness enthusiasts who like to challenge themselves with new adventures and terrains. The Amazfit T-Rex is claimed to be built according to the U.S. Military’s standards which give it the ability to withstand harsh weather conditions and ensure great durability. The rigid outer shell and the large etched metallic buttons give the Amazfit T-Rex’s shape a distinctive and solid look. The four buttons along each of the corners have well-defined features and strong texture, making them suitable even for scenarios when you could be wearing gloves.
The “high-strength polymer body” allows the T-Rex to endure extreme variations in temperature; it can operate in a range between -40º to 70º in Celcius (-40º to 160ºF) and can survive rapid temperature changes between these extremes for up to two hours. The Amazfit T-Rex can also withstand damage attacks from alkalis or salt for up to 96 hours and resist extreme humidity or dampness for up to 240 hours. Additionally, the corners feature bumpers outside the bezel to absorb any vibration and prevent any physical shock from interfering with the working of the watch. Its 5ATM rating along with protection against salt water means that you can wear it while swimming, scuba diving, surfing, or any other seawater-related activity besides the pool and open-water swimming activities.
Besides the rugged watch body, the silicone wrist band is sweat-permeable, breathable, and offers a comfortable wearing experience in spite of sweat. Huami’s T-Rex has also passed 12 United States Department of Defense certifications accrediting it for its strength and rigidity.
The Amazfit T-Rex features a 1.3-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360. Our Editor-in-Chief, Mishaal Rahman, visited the Amazfit booth at CES 2020 and found the display to be bright and readable. The smartwatch also supports an Always-On Display feature which shows only the basic information; while lifting the wrist instantly turns on the full display. This feature, however, can be turned off to save battery on the Amazfit T-Rex. Meanwhile, the support of a large number of watchfaces makes watch even more exciting and fitting for your personality.
When it comes to fitness tracking, the Amazfit T-Rex 14 different sports modes and supports tracking for a wide range of outdoor activities including skiing, mountain climbing, trail running, cycling, etc. Huami will also add a new triathlon feature with an upcoming OTA. For accurate activity tracking, the smartwatch is equipped with a Huami Biotracker PPG optical heart-rate sensor. For outdoor trail tracking, the Amazfit T-Rex features a high-end GPS chip from Sony which enables dual-satellite positioning system (GPS + GLONASS) and optimized signal efficiency, making the satellite search and positioning more efficient, best suited for your needs in urban jungles and wilderness alike.
The battery on the Amazfit T-Trex can last for 20 days in casual usage and up to 66 days if you just use the basic watch features without engaging much into any physical activity tracking. Further, if the GPS is used continuously, the battery lasts for up to 20 hours.
Besides aiding your active and adventurous lifestyle, the T-Rex can be an exciting tool for your daily usage and assist you with the weather forecast, call and app notifications, and a sedentary reminder that suggests you to get up and move around if you’ve been sitting for too long.
Huami will launch the Amazfit T-Rex in the U.S. starting this month and it will be priced at $139.90.

Amazfit Bip S
Back in 2018, Huami launched a fitness tracker, called Amazfit Bip, in a super lightweight smartwatch form factor. At CES 2020, Huami launched the upgrade to the Bip, called the Amazfit Bip S, with new internals but without any noticeable changes in terms of the design. The Amazfit Bip S weighs only 31 grams with the strap included and can be comfortably carried while working out or playing an outdoor sport. Besides that, the lightweight build also makes it fairly unobtrusive while sleeping.
The Amazfit Bip S sports a 40-day battery life on a single charge thanks to Huami’s wise choice of internal components for the fitness tracker. Outside, the Bip S uses the same polycarbonate shell, that grants it its lightweight. The silicon straps are made of skin-friendly TPU material.
Just like the older generations, the Amazfit Bip S features a transflective display, which gets brighter with increasing intensity of the light that falls on it. This makes the Bip S excellent for outdoor usage whereas, for indoor usage, the display is also backlit.
The Amazfit Bip S gets 10 sports tracking modes while an OTA in the future will add support for freestyle training, elliptical trainers, indoor cycling, and yoga. The 5ATM water-resistance allows tracking of swimming activities in freshwater. However, unlike the T-Rex, the Bip S is not suited for saltwater swimming. The fitness band also comes with a PPG optical heart rate monitor that can measure the heart-rate round the clock while you can set warnings for scenarios when the heart rate exceeds a certain high value. Aiding the PPG sensor in fitness tracking is a 28nm low-power GPS tracker chip that supports GPS + GLONASS dual-mode positioning. The GPS on Amazfit Bip S can be used continuously for 20 hours.
Just like other Amazfit smartwatches, Amazfit Bips S gets the Huami-PAI health assessment feature. Using data about your physical activities over the last seven days, the companion app shows a PAI score. Maintaining a PAI score of more than 100 ensures a healthy lifestyle and reduces the chances of cardiovascular diseases.
Apart from the comfortable and ergonomic design and a long-lasting battery, the Amazfit Bip S can be utilized for controlling music playback, checking the weather forecast, setting alarms, and much more.
The Huami Amazfit Bip S will be available starting February and is priced at $69.90.
