The T-Mobile carrier editions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8 Active, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are now receiving new updates, with all getting the upgrade to the December 2017 security patch. This latest security update brings a number of security enhancements relating to software components such as Framework, Media Framework, System, and the Kernel. Each device is also receiving some extras, depending on bugs relating to the device and other features. All also bring some general performance enhancements.
Firstly, the Galaxy Note 8 is receiving the software version N950USQU2BQLA in a 315.85MB package. It brings fixes for T-Mobile’s DIGITS, which allows users to use the same phone number on multiple devices, and should bring a fix for a crash when users make video calls from the device’s stock dialer.
On the Galaxy S8 Active, License Assisted Access (LAA) is now enabled to allow users to use LTE Advanced, among other system improvements and stability enhancements. The update is software version G892USQU1AQK5 and weights in at 230.09MB. This is the first upgrade the device has seen with T-Mobile.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have received the December 2017 security patch, but not much else is specified in the update. The Galaxy S7 has software version G930TUVS4BQL2 (49.15MB), while the Galaxy S7 Edge has software version G935TUVS4BQL2 (49.3MB).
If you haven’t received the update yet, you should be getting it soon as it is likely a staged rollout. It’s great to see carrier devices receive the latest security patches, especially when sometimes carriers have put off upgrading devices.
